BIOTIC
CONDITIONS
| Rodents abundance evaluation: |
average
Breeding conditions:
| Short-eared Owls were numerous, Short-tailed and Long-tailed Skuas stayed in the area and often hunted wader chicks. Breeding success of waders was probably better than average. Nests and broods of Ringed Plover, Wood Sandpiper, Temmincks Stint and Dunlin were found.
Rodent dynamics:
| Numbers of lemmings were estimated as close to average, and judging by abundance of their winter nests (up to 30 on 10 ha, c.f. average 10 on 10 ha) there had been even larger numbers earlier. As they had overwintered successfully, numbers declined gradually. Root Vole abundance was also average, while that of Northern Red-backed Vole was less than average.
